Do Raku workshops in the woods (£15/£20)

The Raku workshops in the woods with Nigel Hoyle and Sophie Burgeyne.

Location – Zone B: T6

A Raku kiln is a specialised, fast-firing kiln used in a centuries-old Japanese pottery technique. Unlike standard electric kilns, Raku kilns are typically portable, gas-fuelled (propane), and heat up to around 1800°F (980°C) in less than an hour.  Because they are operated outdoors, Raku kilns are built with lightweight materials – often stainless steel dustbins or specialised metal drums heavily lined with ceramic fibre insulation. This lightweight design allows artists to quickly lift the kiln while it is at peak temperature to extract glowing-red pottery using metal tongs.

Sunday drop in anytime between 10:00 and 16:00.  The small objects are £15 to glaze and fire in the raku kiln and the large objects are £20.  You will be able to take your object home with you once fired and cooled.  If you would like to reserve a place email Nigel nhoyle1@btinternet.com or fill out the RSVP below.
